We recently launched our seasonal Märzen beer. Märzen used to be brewed by many German breweries, but has since fallen out of favour and brewed by only a handful of dedicated brewers. It is a traditional German lager and represents the essence of German brewing. We brew it because it should not be forgotten.
Our Märzen is nicely balanced. Not too sweet and not too hoppy. It provides a nice warm bread flavor with a hint of caramel at the end.
Märzen also gave rise to the use of refrigeration in the beer industry. A Bavarian law prevented the brewing of beer between Mid April to late September. So Marzen was brewed in March according to a recipe that would allow it to say fresh for longer. This need to keep the beer fresh also led to the German Linde group developing refrigeration for breweries.
Märzen is also closely associated with Oktoberfest.
